"Manang"
Hi Kitty
Today we are acclimatizing in Manang. We climbed up to over 4000m past a glacier and lake to a peak high above the village.
We have been from Chame to Pisang and now here. Brock is doing so much better after a bad day from Chame to Pisang when he was ready to give in. He stopped us at our first rest stop and told us he could not make it and was planning to fly out of a small airport to meet us on the other side of the pass but by the time he got to Pisang he was feeling better and willing to push on...which lifted a dark cloud off of our day for sure. He had no problems with the climb today. It is now snowing hard and there is talk that some of the people who have left over the last day or so will be hard pressed to make it across until the weather breaks which is about when we make our attempt. We are in a deep valley high in the mountains which have changed from being Hindu to now being Tibetan Buddhist. We hiked up to a Gompa and saw the monks or lamas and inside was all painted with murals and massive gold statues or buddas, it was high above Pisang and we had an incredible view but now the view is even more wild. Tomorrow we begin our way out and to Yak Kharka. Last night we had the best meal yet..we were able to actually get a bottle of Australian red for $20.00 with Yak steaks in a mushroom cream brandy sauce!!!! Yes up here in the mountains! They lit the brandy and it caught the table and our American friend on fire hahahaha.....back to reality and Dahl Baht tomorrow and back to primitive cold lodgings...oh well it was sure a nice treat while it lasted. Manang is much more well off due to the amount of trekkers who use it to acclimatize and the need to stay two or more days, so lots of cash flows through here and it shows....however it still looks right out of Monty Python's Holy Grail....just waiting for the French knights to yell down at us as we pass hahahaha. This will be the last update for a good few days at least until we make the pass and get down towards Jomson.
Love You and Miss you a ton
John
