"Chame to Pisang"
Great sleep, very cold in the room and dining area, we can see our breath. Porridge with apples for breakfast. Steep climbs through spectacular trails cut into the side of the cliffs. Trees getting a bit more sparse. Huge valley with a massive rock wall to our right. We are in the Marsyangandi Valley with mountain peaks on all sides. Brock told us that "he was done" and would not make it. We were all very down until he much later came blasting into Pisang feeling great! He said he found his stride and although he was sore he would be ok to continue. Alan and I went from being very down to very up and relieved that Brock had found himself. We checked into the "Maya" which was to say the least was a bit "dire". Talking with some of the guides, they say all the places in Pisang are about the same. I wondered what Buddy would find if he took a swab of the menu, it was so dirty. Brock and I did a spectacular walk up the valley to Upper Pisang to gain some altitude. We toured a huge gompa high above the village. It was amazing, all carved wood, murals, buddas etc. we had an incredible view of the whole valley, the village below and the mountains all around. We ate fried noodles with cheese and then apple pie for dessert. The pie was very good, we enjoyed it around a small fire in the dining area with all the other trekkers, porters and guides all chatting away while an older English gentleman, that we have befriended did card tricks. Alan had an animated conversation with a somewhat ignorant Israeli who had no idea that Canada had any involvement in the two world wars. It was fun. Although the rooms were very cold I was still warm in my bag with a smelly comforter over top. I am a bit concerned about my shin/ankle as the tiger balm is not working.
