"Jomsom to Kalopani"
Very, very windy, we had to wear or bandanas because the blowing sand and dust was so bad. The village of Marpha which is the "Apple Capital of Nepal" was really nice. Orchards are everywhere, nice plots of trees with almonds, walnuts and many varieties of apples. I picked some marijuana on the side of the trail that was covered in huge drippy, sticky buds. We stopped for lunch in the village of Tukuche at the "High Plains Inn". It looked right out of a western movie, in fact it even had a poster of Clint Eastwood in "For a Few Dollars More". I had chips and wild mushroom soup. The hike from here to Kalopani was so windy there was no escape from the grit in our faces and eyes. My left knee, leg and ankle are causing me a ton of pain the ankle actually gives out at times. Brock is also not doing well and was not able to continue from Tukuche on foot. He would grab a bus and went on ahead to book us in at the Kalopani Guest House. By the time we got there I was wiped and in pain and as soon as I sat down I knew I was sick. I went and took the first hot shower I had had in many days then went to bed and became violently sick, throwing up and then bad diarrhea. Alan came up to get me some medication. I took my Cipro, Imodium and Gravol, and then got a bottle of water to sip on to try to keep fluids in me. It was a very long terrible night. It may have been the mushroom soup at lunch or perhaps the fruit juice for breakfast but who knows.
For many days now none of the villages have electricity, they advertize internet but it is useless with no power. This hotel is very nice but too bad I was too sick to enjoy it. The boys had a great time in the dining area, playing cards with fellow trekkers.
