November 11/2009. Remembrance Day. Log entry
"Pisang to Manang"
Porridge with apples and (almonds from Brock's stash) for breakfast. My leg and ankle are very sore so I decided to take the low route with Brock, while Alan did the high route. I still blasted the whole way and made it to Manang by 12:00 noon. What a valley I walked today. The only trees are pine, if any at all. The villagers put the pine needles and dung across the trail so boots trampling over the piles break it down into compost. Manang is great so far. I booked into the Hotel Tilicho, a real hotel with a bakery! I had a big glass of Sea buckthorn juice, coffee and a brownie. They have meat and Mexican food along with a real wood fired pizza oven. I just ordered a yak burger with chips and a salad...it was heaven! We walked around the village, a real medieval place, very cool! We found a movie theater and watched "Into Thin Air" on yak fur covered benches. They stopped the movie part way through to serve us tea and popcorn. The place is heated by a small woodstove. Posters on the walls of Blink 182, Manchester United, and Che Guevara among others cover the walls. We did a quick email home and then had an incredible meal. Yak Steaks in a brandy cream sauce that was lit on fire at the table. The flames ignited the table cloth and our friend from the USA! We even had a bottle of Australian red wine for only $20.00. Then we had hot chocolate with rum before heading to bed. It was a great day.
